Some Oregon residents first learned this month that their personal information was stolen in a breach last summer. KOBI5 News reports:
According to the City of Roseburg, on August 4, the city experienced a network disruption, and officials immediately opened an investigation.
The forensic investigation lasted through January 6 to determine multiple individuals’ information had been breached. That information included names, dates of birth, social security numbers, driver’s license and state identification numbers, and more.
Roseburg says it provided written notice to the potentially affected individuals on February 14.
The number of people notified was not disclosed, but the city has a population of over 20,000. Whether the breach included only current residents or past residents was not stated.
A check of the city’s website does not reveal any public notice about the incident or an explanation of why it took the city so long to notify people that their identity information was stolen. No ransomware group appears to have claimed credit for any attack on the city.
