Marquis data breach impacts over 74 US banks, credit unions

Gesa Credit Union was one of Marquis Software Solutions’s clients affected by a breach at Marquis, but there were many others. Bleeping Computer reports:

Financial software provider Marquis Software Solutions is warning that it suffered a data breach that impacted dozens of banks and credit unions across the US.

Marquis Software Solutions provides data analytics, CRM tools, compliance reporting, and digital marketing services to over 700 banks, credit unions, and mortgage lenders.

In data breach notifications filed with US Attorney General offices, Marquis says it suffered a ransomware attack on August 14, 2025, after its network was breached through its SonicWall firewall.

According to the notification to Maine, 42,784 Maine residents were affected by the breach, with 38,334 of them being customers at Maine State Credit Union. Those numbers do not include the 51,000 Norway Savings Bank customers affected by the breach, 44,259 of whom are Maine residents.

The total number affected by this incident has not yet been disclosed, but reports to Maine, Iowa, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Washington State, and Texas indicate a subtotal of approximately 721,000 affected consumers so far.
