A month after it announced a data breach that affected more than 1.4 million of its patients, a Richmond, Virginia medical practice is dealing with a wave of lawsuits. Richmond BizSense reports:
Radiology Associates of Richmond has been hit with at least 10 lawsuits filed in federal court in recent weeks by plaintiffs claiming to be victims of the data breach and asking for millions of dollars in damages.
The cases, all seeking class action status, started rolling in on July 7, just a few days after RAR began notifying patients of the data breach.
The 10 lawsuits have since been consolidated into one, which was filed Aug. 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
The news report does not indicate whether any plaintiffs have alleged actual concrete injury or harm from the breach, such as identity theft or fraud.
