Discord is preparing to enforce a global age verification system from early March that will require users to confirm their age using a face scan or a government‑issued ID before accessing adult content. The new measures are designed to protect younger users but have prompted backlash from privacy advocates and Discord communities worried about the safety of personal data.
Under the new rules, all users will initially be placed into a teen‑appropriate experience. Discord has said that only verified adults will be able to join age‑restricted communities and view un-blurred sensitive material. Users who do not complete the age verification process will also be unable to receive direct messages from people they do not know.
