The MOVEit data breach, which affected more than 2,760 organizations and 95 million people, resulted in multidistrict litigation against Progress Software and numerous lawsuits against the organizations using the file-transfer software.
One of the organizations sued was Sovos Compliance in Massachusetts. Top Class Actions reports that the firm has agreed to pay more than $3.53 million to resolve claims that it failed to prevent the 2023 data breach that compromised about 490,000 of Sovos consumers’ information.
The settlement isn’t final yet, but as settlements go, the terms will likely seem attractive to consumers who have not incurred any losses. They have the option to accept a flat rate payment of $150, and if they are California residents, they can receive an additional $100 as a statutory reward. In addition, all class members are eligible for up to three years of credit monitoring.
