$6.5M Navvis, SSM Health ransomware data breach class action settlement

Navvis and SSM Health have agreed to a $6.5 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that they failed to prevent a 2023 data breach that compromised sensitive patient information.

The SSM Health settlement benefits anyone whose private information was compromised in the Navvis and SSM Health data breach between July 12 and 25, 2023.

The case is Doe, et al. v. SSM Health Care Corporation d/b/a SSM Health, et al., Case No. 2422-CC00208-01, in the Circuit Court of St. Louis, Missouri. The official settlement website is SettlementNavvis.com where you can find directions for who is eligible to file a claim and how to file a claim. According to the complaint, the breach affected approximately 2.8 million patients.

As part of the settlement, Navvis also agreed to invest more in security:

Information Security Improvements. Separate from and in addition to the Settlement Fund, Navvis commits to spend an additional $500,000 per year on cybersecurity. This $500,000 of additional spend will be measured against Navvis’ scybersecurity spend for 2023. This commitment will begin in 2024 and continue through calendar year 2028. In addition, upon request, Navvis will disclose efforts taken to date to Plaintiffs’ Counsel via written declaration.
